For day 10 I decided to another non food pin. This one was a last minute idea....more like an emergency case. We had a sink in our bathroom that wouldn't drain & with no Liquid Plumber in the house....what else is a girl to do but turn to Pinterest!! No pictures for this one...I don't think anyone really wants to see our clogged sink.
Sorry to say but I am rating this pin a 1....epic fail!!!!
The original "recipe" can be found at marthastewart.com
Ingredients:
1/2 C baking soda
1/2 C white vinegar
Boiling water
Step 1: Pour baking soda & vinegar. The mixture will foam up.
Step 2: Then pour boiling water down the drain to wash out any clogs.
I saw this same pin a few times when looking for a solution to our problem...but nope had to send Mr. J to the store to buy Liquid Plumber and a plastic tool thingy to unclog it. Well now the sink is draining perfectly...for now :)
On a side note...I think this more for maintenance then to actually unclog a clogged sink. So I plan to try it again next week to keep my sink unclogged. Give it a try you might have better luck than me!
Hi, Allison, I also did the same thing with regards to my sink. The solution worked for me, but what troubled me afterwards was the pungent smell of vinegar. I thought of ways to improvise and I added dishwashing liquid to the solution and VIOLA; it was a success! The smell of vinegar was eliminated thanks to the sweet scent of my dishwashing liquid. Anyway, I’m still glad that you unclogged your sink even though the popular solution didn’t work for you.

ReplyDeleteI agree with what Kurt has advised because I used to endure the sour smell when I was unclogging my sink. When my wife and kids started to complain that they can’t stand the smell, I thought of ways to eliminate it. After some research, I came across lemon-scented dishwashing liquid. It’s a simple solution, but it has indeed it has worked well for me in both eliminating the sour smell as well as giving my sink a good scent.

Cool! Sounds inexpensive for clog-free sink maintenance. I am grateful I stumbled upon this post. Thanks for taking time to write your tips, Allison! You made me remember of the science project I had in school where the volcano erupted when I poured vinegar over baking soda (paper mache volcano). LOL! ^_^ I used to have a plunger, snake, or wire hanger. I’ll see if your suggestions would work for my sink. Thanks for posting! Take care!
